Such a strong opening, and I couldn’t agree more! 🙌 I’m always on the hunt for those hidden gems that don’t make it into the usual travel guides or 'Top 10' lists. You shared some great ways to find more authentic, local experiences! I love chatting with locals too and honestly spend way too much of my free time creeping around Google Maps—I've discovered some amazing spots that way! 😂"

I’m new to my own Substack journey, but I think you’d enjoy some of the cool finds I uncover! 😊✨

Honestly those are great recs and I always take my time trying to find something cool anywhere (even the places I've been to multiple times). There was this one time I asked my hotel receptionist in Barcelona for a nice breakfast spot and she literally recommended the one bakery chain they have in every corner of the city lol. Luckily I had been other times and just ended up going somewhere else to eat. Other than that, you can really find out some hidden gems just by talking to locals!

It's so worth the effort! Sometimes hotel/hostel staff are sick of giving recommendations (which is fair!) so I find they can be a bit more hit and miss. Depending on how long I'm staying, I try to get to know them a bit first and then ask for recommendations!

I definitely get tired of different people posting the same pictures of a particular destination on social media and try not to be that person, so these tips were super helpful! I never thought to check out old blogs but I might have to try that out. Also didn't know Uber had an event calendar for drivers!

Old blogs are honestly a game changer! And the uber events calendar is great if you're travelling in a big city!
