Other great alternative is Sonder! They repurpose hotels and office buildings.

Yes! I've used them in Philly, Phoenix, Vancouver, and Mexico City. I don't think they have really penetrated South America or Africa but I know they are all over Europe also.

I've always wanted to try housesitting but I've always wondered how the progress works? Especially since I would be watching someone else's pet, do they leave a note for you with what to do or are they usually there to show the ropes and then leave? Just curious about the overall process

Loved reading this!

I've also stopped using Airbnb for this reason (and the whole doing a full apartment clean and taking out the bins). The housing crises all over the world are scary.

As someone who lived out of Airbnbs for most of the year, I agree the company has played a huge role in the influx in rental prices. For my mom to come visit me here in Oakland, CA for 7 days cost more than my rent and I’ve been working to play catch up from that financial hit. This was such a great read!
